Our purpose and what makes us special

The NTAG Houston Chief’s Mess exists to lead, mentor, serve, and preserve the proud legacy of the United States Navy Chief Petty Officer. Our Mess is more than a group of Chiefs; it is a network of deckplate leaders committed to developing Sailors, supporting families, honoring Navy heritage, and strengthening the connection between the Navy and the Houston community. We stand on leadership, accountability, service, and tradition, guiding the next generation of Navy leaders, supporting Chief Season, celebrating milestones like the Khaki Ball, and creating meaningful opportunities for mentorship, fellowship, fundraising, and community partnership. What makes us unique is our unwavering commitment to both the Navy mission and the people behind the mission, believing that leadership is about service, example, and leaving the Mess stronger for those who come aft.

Who we support and how we help

The NTAG Houston Chief’s Mess supports several vital groups within our Navy family and surrounding community. We provide Chief Petty Officers with fellowship, professional development, mentorship, accountability, and opportunities to strengthen the Mess through leadership and service. We guide Chief Selectees through Chief Season, helping them grow as deckplate leaders and preparing them to carry forward the traditions, responsibilities, and expectations of the Chief Petty Officer community. We also mentor, develop, and advocate for Sailors, preparing them for greater responsibility, mission success, and personal and professional growth. Furthermore, we support families by creating opportunities for inclusion, recognition, and connection during important Navy milestones, events, and traditions. We honor the legacy of veterans and retired Chiefs, keeping them connected to the Mess and welcoming their continued mentorship and wisdom.

Living our values: Leadership, mentorship, and service

The NTAG Houston Chief’s Mess lives out its values through visible leadership, mentorship, and service. A prime example is Chief Season, where the Mess comes together to train, mentor, and develop newly selected Chief Petty Officers. Through leadership development, heritage events, accountability, teamwork, and professional guidance, Chiefs help prepare Selectees to lead Sailors with confidence, humility, and purpose. Another example is our extensive community service and outreach. The Mess supports volunteer efforts, fundraising initiatives, family-centered events, and partnerships with local organizations. These efforts allow us to give back to the Houston community while strengthening the bond between the Navy, military families, veterans, and community partners. Through these actions, the NTAG Houston Chief’s Mess demonstrates that leadership is not only about rank; it is about service, mentorship, accountability, and leaving a lasting impact on Sailors, families, and the community.

"The NTAG Houston Chief's Mess embodies true leadership and dedication. Their commitment to developing Sailors and strengthening the community is truly inspiring."
